Teacher Goodies: Intro to Arduino

Welcome to Earth Science and Environmental Studies with databot!  databot rocks data using its on board sensors that measure environment information like Air Quality, Humidity, Temperature, Ambient Light and the Ultraviolet spectrum.  In this series of activities you’re going to use databot to capture and visualize data related to air quality and the factors that impact it.  databot can help you better understand what impacts the air you breathe for example, by providing data on levels of Carbon Dioxide and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs).

Important Terms

  • Volatile Organic Compounds
  • Carbon Dioxide
  • Particulate Matter
  • Pollutant
  • Ambient
  • Ultaviolet
  • Humidity

Materials Required

  • databot
  • 2 liter plastic bottle
  • computer
  • software: Arduino IDE
  • software: Spreadsheet application (Excel, Google Sheets, Numbers, etc.)

You should complete the databot units on setup and coding prior to doing these activities to make sure you are familiar with the software and hardware.
